Today wrought iron is no longer produced or sold. Most of the products that are today refered to as wrought iron (railings, gates, furniture ) are actually made of forged mild steel. This material is different in composition if you compare it to wrought iron. It also has less impurities than wrought iron . Wrought iron was obtained from first combining various raw materials and heating them to a molten state (sponge iron). The molten material was then hammered into a solid mass producing wrought iron stock. The wrought iron could then be heated again and hammered more to generate the desired profile of a finished product. Today this process is no longer used due to the costs/quality reasons. The term wrought iron is still being used alltow the obtaining method is different because …the iron in our shop is heated again to a higher temperature and then hammered until the desired shape is obtained. This is the reason why we still refer as wrought iron gates and wrought iron railings.
This is a very explicit movie of how the iron is
forged today by hand and by power hammers

Hi,
I see that you added my youtube movie to your website.
I’m a bit honored. What you do (website and forging works) looks very professional.
